Why We Decided to Install Sound Deadening
When we first began traveling in our van full-time, one thing became abundantly clear – it was too loud! The road noise and general lack of soundproofing made sleeping, relaxing, and even having a conversation inside the van quite difficult. We realized we needed to install Sound Deadening Van if we wanted to enjoy using our van as a living space.
There were a few key reasons we decided to take on a sound deadening installation project:
Road and engine noise made sleeping impossible. Even with the generator off, we could hear every pebble hit the undercarriage on gravel roads. This lack of soundproofing meant we weren’t getting good rest.
The van felt uncomfortably loud when driving as well. Raised voices were needed for basic conversation over the constant hum of the road. It was straining on our voices and created a lot of unnecessary noise pollution.
We wanted the van to feel more like a home rather than just a vehicle. Cocooning ourselves from exterior sounds helps achieve that “living space” feel.
Improved soundproofing also has benefits for temperature regulation. By blocking noises, it also blocks heat and cold from transferring in and out as easily. We hoped this would make temperature control easier year-round.
After weighing the pros, it was clear that installing sound deadening would be a worthwhile investment to improve our Van Conversion Range dwelling experience long-term. The next step was deciding which type of material would work best.
Lack of sleep can seriously impact safety. As full-time van dwellers, we were often on the road for long stretches at a time. Driving while exhausted is as dangerous as drunk driving. We needed to ensure we felt well-rested for each day of travel.
The noise level inside the van also affected our moods. Constantly raising our voices and not being able to relax took a psychological toll over time. Both of us were feeling more stressed, anxious, and short-tempered without a quiet space to recharge.
Our conversations inside the van felt strained. Shouting to be heard isn’t conducive to meaningful discussions or quality time together. We wanted a living space where we could talk, watch movies, and enjoy each other’s company without distraction.
From a health perspective, noise pollution has been linked to higher blood pressure, increased stress hormone levels, and even heart disease according to research studies. Living with that constant racket was not a sustainable long-term situation for our well-being.
Financially, the cost of soundproofing would pay off in other ways as well. With better temperature regulation, we’d save on gas and electricity over the lifetime of the van. Improved sleep means fewer doctor visits too. Our quality of life is worth investing in.
Overall, transforming the van into a peaceful oasis was a priority. Soundproofing was the lynchpin that could help us achieve that, so it became our first major upgrade project. Our comfort, safety, health, and relationship depended on it.
Our conversations inside carried outside. With such thin walls, passersby could likely hear everything we said. This compromised our ability to speak freely and feel secure in our home. Soundproofing would muffle conversations for increased privacy.
The noise also impacted our ability to work remotely. With so much distraction, it was difficult to focus on tasks or take important calls. We needed a quiet space conducive to productivity.
Entertaining friends was challenging in such a loud environment. Having people over felt awkward when we had to shout. We wanted a more comfortable setting for socializing indoors.
Long-term, we hoped to increase our van’s resale value. Potential buyers would likely pay more for a van that feels serene rather than one that echoes like a tin can down the highway. Our upgrades would retain value.
Sleep is truly essential not only for health, but also for safety as we travel frequently. Lack of rest can seriously impair judgment and reaction times, putting us at risk. Peace of mind is priceless.
