We all know THC. That’s tetrahydrocannabinol, one of the major compounds known as cannabinoids that hemp plants naturally produce.
But there are somewhere around 100 other so-called cannabinoids also produced by hemp plants, some of which are also consumed recreationally or medicinally for their effects.
One of these minor cannabinoids is HHC, or hexahydrocannabinol, which is sometimes used to produce vaping products, like HHC disposables.
Here are a few high level things to know about this interesting compound.
What Is HHC?
HHC, more properly known as hexahydrocannabinol, is a minor cannabinoid that, while present in small quantities in hemp plants, is only present in concentrations too small to make extraction commercially viable.
Consequently, HHC is typically produced in a lab by altering the chemistry of other naturally occurring cannabinoids such as CBD (another major cannabinoid that like THC is widely consumed).
How Is HHC Different from THC? How Is HHC Made?
HHC and THC are both extremely similar compounds, with the only main difference between them being that HHC contains more hydrogen and lacks the double bond on the ninth carbon atom of the “tail.”
Most HHC is produced by converting CBD to either Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC in a lab, then hydrogenating it, which results in the formation of HHC molecules.
(Interestingly, this process is actually not new and was first performed in 1947, when HHC was discovered. Also interestingly, hydrogenating THC, creating HHC, produces a heavier, more stable compound with a longer shelf life that is more resistant to damage incurred by UV light and temperature fluctuations.)
These two compounds are also different in their effects.
Does HHC Get You High?
There isn’t a lot of research into this subject, and the quality of commercial HHC products varies, so proceed carefully.
With that said, most users report that HHC does indeed produce psychoactive effects that are similar to THC, as long as it is consumed in adequate dosages.
Some users also report that HHC is more potent than THC, but as is also the case with THC, the effects may vary from user to user.
Those who state that HHC is more potent than THC often report that the effects linger for longer – but again, effects may vary between individuals.
Does HHC Show Up on a Drug Test?
Most drug panels are testing for a specific metabolite of THC, known as 11-hydroxy-THC. However, HHC may not be metabolized in the body in the same way as THC.
Therefore, there is no conclusive evidence that HHC will or will not show up on a drug test, so sample with caution and take no risks.
Where Can I Try HHC Disposable Vapes?
HHC products, like HHC disposable vapes, are new in the market, but if you’re interested in sampling this fairly novel cannabinoid, vaping can be a great way to try it.
It is more convenient than smoking, can be fairly discrete, and since the 2018 Farm Bill made all hemp-derived extracts federally legal as long as they contained less than .3% Delta-9 THC, fairly accessible.
(Just be aware that some states have their own legal landscape regarding HHC, so do your own research if you are not sure.)
With that said, there are a handful of online retailers offering HHC disposables and vapes, such as Wild Orchard Hemp.
Wild Orchard Hemp’s HHC disposables are made with USA-grown hemp and lab-tested extracts, delivering the pinnacle of purity.
There are also a lot of options on their website, along with other hemp-derived cannabis products. Check them out via the link above or get in touch with them directly at [email protected].
