Enjoy Full Film Review Merry Little Batman

Are you looking for a fun and festive way to spend the holidays?  Take a look at Merry Little Batman, a fresh film on Prime Video that brings together DC’s Gotham crew with some delightful Yuletide antics.

Mike Roth, known for his work on Camp Lazlo, Regular Show, and Summer Camp Island, takes the helm of this zany production centered around Damian, Batman’s 8-year-old son, as he embarks on his superhero journey. Blending the essence of beloved holiday films such as Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Merry Little Batman offers a delightful and slightly unconventional experience.

What Is The Merry Little Batman All About?

Disregard the somber Batman from The Dark Knight trilogy or the psychologically scarred Bruce from Harley Quinn or the vigilante chasing serial killers in The Batman. In this whimsical version, the legendary character has retired after single-handedly turning Gotham from a crime-infested city to a cheerful one. Presently, his focus is on being a parent to his son Damian Wayne. To match his relaxed lifestyle, Bruce Wayne now sports a lumberjack aesthetic with a full beard, a plaid shirt, and the voice of Luke Wilson.

Wayne Manor is getting ready for Christmas, and Alfred Pennyworth is diligently preparing a festive feast, despite his age catching up to him. However, just as everything seems to be in order, Bruce receives an unexpected call on the Bat-Phone. With no time to waste, he rushes off, leaving his son Damian behind on Christmas Eve. Damian yearns to join his father in the fight against crime and is determined to prove himself. Equipped with his very first utility belt, he sets out to demonstrate his readiness. When a pair of burglars attempt a home invasion, Damian springs into action, donning a makeshift cowl made from a paper bag and a cape fashioned from an old blanket. Merry Little Batman Is A Happily Comical Exploration

Warner Bros. has given its TV shows the freedom to explore the crazy possibilities of the DC library, as seen in the hilariously chaotic Doom Patrol, the delightfully twisted Harley Quinn, and the bold Peacemaker. However, their movies often struggle to find the right balance between being overly serious or catering solely to fans.  While Merry Little Batman may not reach the same level of wildness as the TV-MA shows mentioned earlier, it is able to have carefree fun with the characters without the pressure of fitting into a larger narrative.

There are numerous Easter eggs for DC fans to discover, such as Bruce having a Talia tattoo on his exposed chest and the Wayne family’s cat being named Selena. However, some purists might criticize the unlikely partnership between Poison Ivy and the Joker, which seems to exist solely for the enjoyment of seeing her in a holiday-themed costume. Nevertheless, it is a delightfully surprising experience to witness these characters, typically depicted as terrifying villains, transformed into whimsical figures reminiscent of Dr. Seuss.

They are not frightening because, despite their efforts to steal gifts and bother a child, they are also vibrant, loud, and absurd. The resulting chaos is reminiscent of a cartoon, and any potentially concerning moments of violence, like Damian creating a homemade flamethrower, are only implied and not shown onscreen. In short, children may not fully understand the connection, but adults will grasp the underlying message.

Merry Little Batman Tells A Heartwarming Story Of A Loving Father And His Son.

Batman’s identity is often shaped by the tragic event that left him an orphan. He dedicates his life to fighting crime, driven by the desire to prevent any other child from witnessing the loss of their loved ones. While this dark origin story is hinted at, it is done so in a subtle manner to avoid unsettling sensitive children. An AI version of Batman, known as BatDad, acts as a mentor to Damian as he fearlessly embarks on his adventures.

Surprisingly, this device becomes a unique tool for bonding, as it lacks the reservations of its creator and expresses emotional truths with logical clarity. Ultimately, Damian undergoes personal growth and begins to comprehend why his father is fiercely protective. Bruce’s actions stem not from a lack of trust in his son, but from his determination to preserve Damian’s innocence. However, children tend to mature faster than their parents anticipate, leading Bruce to realize that he too has much to learn.
